Rose and Thistle - 18th century Jacobite re-enactors

About Us

In the beginning

Rose and Thistle (RaT) was set up by three experienced re-enactors who were formerly members of the Atholl Brigade within Lace Wars. Their aim was to recreate the most accurate Jacobite regiment in re-enactment. Soon other members joined and the group soon grew into a society that welcomed new and old re-enactors and is proud to be family friendly.
Our Chairman regularly lectures on the '45 and was Master of Ceremonies at the opening of the Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre. Other members have carried out detailed research so we can help new members and are also available to offer historical advice to films, TV and museums.
RaT is an independent organisation that has been involved in the recent 1715 commemorations and has an alter ego as 18th century Highwaymen. We have worked with many event organisers all over the UK as well as TV companies.

Joining

We welcome new and old re-enactors into RaT. The first step is to have a chat with our Chairman. We can lend you clothing for your first events until you decide we are the group for you and start to get your own kit together. Although we have our own events we are part of Lace Wars (www.lacewars.co.uk) and offer a try before you buy weekend where you can come to an event as a guest and see what we do and if you like it. Membership is £5 per year for RaT and £10 for Lace Wars.
